Name
Navigating Campus ADHD Services: National Approaches and the JHU Journey
Description

The transition from secondary school to college is a critical developmental period for students with ADHD, requiring increasing independence in managing healthcare, academics, and disability accommodations. Although many adolescents receive coordinated support from families, schools, and community providers before matriculation, clinicians may have limited familiarity with the services and policies available across postsecondary institutions

This session will provide an overview of ADHD care in higher education. First, research on the current national landscape of campus ADHD services and student service utilization patterns will be presented. This will be complemented with a review of obstacles to implementing campus ADHD services and practical suggestions for students and their parents and clinicians.

Presenters will then describe the structure and implementation of the comprehensive ADHD service model at Johns Hopkins University, illustrating how multidisciplinary collaboration can support students through coordinated clinical care, academic partnerships, and continuity across healthcare systems. The student ADHD services at Johns Hopkins University won the American College Health Association’s 2026 Best Practices Award in the Counseling Services category. Discussion will emphasize practical strategies for transition planning, stimulant prescribing, integrated service delivery, and collaboration among community clinicians, campus providers, and disability services.
