Name
Game on with Coach C: A Psychologist's Playbook for Helping Kids with ADHD to Thrive in Team Sports
Description
Team sports offer vital outlets for energy and building self-esteem, yet the "hidden demands" of the game for kids with ADHD, including periods of inactivity, complex multi-step instructions, difficulties knowing where to be and what to do in given situations, often trigger frustration and sometimes meltdowns or even quitting a sport that they like. Led by Dr. H (known as "Coach C"), a licensed psychologist, parent, and seasoned youth sports coach, this session bridges the gap between clinical ADHD knowledge and real-world sideline action. This presentation provides a comprehensive "Playbook" for parents to use with their kids and share with coaches to ensure a successful season. Attendees will move beyond traditional coaching methods to embrace strategies tailored for the neurodiverse brain like the pop fly shuffle to stay focused in baseball or the "what-if scripts" to reduce meltdowns in soccer, basketball, lacrosse, hockey and most other team sports over poor performance, conflicts with teammates, or anger at referees/umpires for calls that are perceived to be unfair.
