Speaker Bio (200 words)
Elizabeth Stone is a twice-exceptional middle school Spanish-teacher in the Philadelphia area. Liz did very well academically throughout her years as a student, but always found herself staying up late waiting until the last minute to complete her assignments, and staying up late getting side-tracked, with everything taking longer than it should, due to her terrible time management. After years of these patterns, she was diagnosed at the age of 17, as a senior in high school, with what is now called ADHD-inattentive type. From years of needing to self-accommodate, she opted not to seek accommodations in college, nor do much with the diagnosis for the next decade or so, as she felt she had built a sufficient toolbox on her own. As she got older, she began to recognize the true consequences her ADHD had on her life and that she could better it with support and knowledge of the diagnosis’s impact. At 30, her then-partner found CHADD and together they attended some local meetings and learned about the International Conference on ADHD, where she learned about ADDA. She joined and became an active member in, among others, the Young Adults virtual peer support group, eventually becoming a facilitator of the group, where she has made her home since 2019, sharing experiences, struggles, wins, and encouragement with her peers.
