Name
Re-thinking substance use PREVENTION during pediatric ADHD primary care appointments
Description
Substance experimentation and use by youth with ADHD is a common concern among parents and primary care providers, but there is limited guidance on how to integrate substance PREVENTION strategies as part of routine ADHD follow up care. In this workshop, attendees will learn about risk and protective factors for youth substance use, emerging trends in youth substance experimentation, and possible connections between ADHD and substance use risk. Attendees will complete a self-assessment of their preferences and priorities for substance use prevention modalities and approaches. They will also participate in interactive discussions to identify prevention barriers from family, provider, and community stakeholder perspectives. This workshop will be conducted by a primary care and child psychiatrist physician, and we value the opportunity for bi-directional learning and discussion of strategies to improve substance use prevention for youth with ADHD.
