"Work first, then play." "Grow up." "Stop goofing off." For a brain wired for novelty, movement, and joy, those messages did real damage. In this interactive session, clinical psychologist and PLAYDHD 2.0 author Dr. Kirsten Milliken makes the case that play isn't a reward you earn after you've been productive enough. For the ADHD brain, it's the operating system. Participants will learn how play helps regulate emotion, calm the stress response, and sharpen focus. They will discover their own Play Personality and feel the five ADHD motivators work in real time through a live "boring task vs. motivated task" experiment. The session also looks at what children see when the adults in their lives play freely instead of white-knuckling productivity. Everyone leaves with a signed, personal permission slip to play. This is not a lecture. Expect to move, laugh, write, and get a little loud.
