Name
Escaping Survival Mode: Transformational Thinking for ADHD
Description
Adults with ADHD may find themselves reacting to conflict, criticism, or relational tension in ways they later regret. A tense conversation with a partner, a difficult email at work, or a moment of perceived rejection can quickly trigger the brain’s threat response. In those moments, the nervous system shifts into “survival mode,” making it harder to pause, think clearly, or respond in ways that reflect our values.
This session introduces the framework of Survival Thinking and Transformational Thinking, a practical model that helps explain why these moments happen and how they affect communication, decision-making, and relationships. Participants will learn how threat detection, limbic activation, and emotional intensity shape reactions in everyday situations at home, at work, and in close relationships.
Attendees will leave with a clear framework and practical strategies for recognizing when they are operating in survival mode and shifting toward more intentional responses. The session offers tools participants can apply immediately to navigate difficult conversations, reduce conflict, and respond in ways that align with who they want to be.
