Name
Coaches Perspectives on Mechanisms, Barriers, and Facilitators of ADHD Coaching
Description
This session presents qualitative findings from the U.S. National Survey of ADHD Coaches, offering a novel examination of ADHD coaching as an emerging, community-based form of support for individuals with ADHD. We identify key mechanisms through which coaching is perceived to impact individuals with ADHD, including improvements in self-concept, self-awareness, and executive functioning skills. We also describe the motivations and perspectives of ADHD coaches, highlighting how coaching differs from traditional therapy in its approach and framing. Finally, we examine barriers to both practice-level success and broader field growth, including affordability, limited awareness, and lack of regulatory and research infrastructure. Discussion will include pathways for future research, implementation strategies, and the potential integration of ADHD coaching into existing care models.
