The ADHD–AuDHD Paradox: Competing Realities Shaping Identity
Description
ADHD is a condition marked by paradox: the same person may be capable, insightful, and deeply motivated, yet struggle with consistency, follow-through, and regulation. AuDHD introduces a different paradox, created by the coexistence of two competing neurodevelopmental systems—one often seeking sameness and control, the other driven by novelty and stimulation. This session explores both paradoxes through the lenses of mother, spouse, and clinician, while introducing Persistent Resistance to Other (PRO) as a framework for understanding the tension between autonomy and connection in neurodivergent lives. Attendees will leave with practical ways to recognize these distinct patterns and apply them in clinical work with individuals, couples, and families.
